Have a blast at Gilcrease Museum’s Art Blast Saturday! Bring the family to Gilcrease to enjoy a celebration of the special exhibition, Emissaries of Peace: The 1762 Cherokee and British Delegations. It’s an exhibition about the momentous journey of three Cherokee Chiefs as they traveled to Great Britain to solidify the fragile peace between the Cherokee Nation and King George III.
Travel back in time to learn about two very different cultures, the British and the Cherokee, in 1762. Create art projects that British and Cherokee children would have made during that time period. Learn to play their games. Enjoy live music and live performances in the museum as you appreciate the diverse art work on display. Of course, you won’t want to miss our interactive multimedia galleries, The Kids Site and Kravis Discovery Center. Test your art skills with an art hunt of the special exhibition and get caught up in the yarns of a Cherokee storyteller as he recreates the events of the time. Stay and have a picnic on the beautiful grounds of the museum as a wide variety of lunch options are available for sale.
It’s a day you won’t want to miss!
Free for families with museum membership.
Free charter membership enrollment available on site.
Art Blast Saturdays 2009 are generously sponsored by Bank of America.
